The Softbox, Focused

Soft where it lands. Focused where it counts.

CINE is a new option between a traditional softbox and a reflector: more direction than a softbox, softer quality than a reflector. Built with Cinematographers, for the lights they already own. One modifier, any system.

CINE 50 Maximum Watts - 2,500 Watts LED

16 - Sided

Beam Angle - 55°

Depth - 54 cm

D-Ring Tensile Strength - 35 kgf

Speed Ring Diameter - 25 cm

*For high-output cinema lights, the fixture’s built-in mounting bracket is generally strong enough to support the CINE softbox, so the CINE Angle Bracket may not be necessary. However, with smaller 300W-600W lighting systems, the fixture’s mounting bracket may not provide sufficient support for the weight of larger CINE modifiers. In these cases, we recommend using the CINE Angle Bracket to provide additional support and stability.

*Please review your lighting fixtures specifications to determine whether the CINE Angle Bracket is required for safe and secure operation.

THE PROBLEM

Big lights got brighter.
Soft light didn't keep up.

Today's point-source LEDs push HMI-level output — 600W, 1200W, and beyond. But the moment you shape that power, the trouble starts.

Put a bare reflector on the head and the shadows go hard and busy. Even the fixture makers admit it: a high-output head is too hard alone, and it takes a large, well-built modifier to soften the shadow transition without killing your output.

So you reach for a softbox. And that's where most of them fail:

They're built to diffuse, not to reach. A standard softbox scatters light everywhere. On a big head, you lose the punch you paid for.

They don't survive the set. Location work is brutal. Most soft modifiers aren't built for repeated rig-ups under real production pressure.

They lock you to one brand. Switch your key light from one system to another, and your modifiers are suddenly the wrong mount.

SMDV Cine was built to answer all three.

01 FOCUSED, NOT JUST DIFFUSED

A softbox that gathers light instead of throwing it away.

A conventional softbox spreads light in every direction — soft, yes, but inefficient, and hard to place with intention.

SMDV Cine is engineered at a converging angle. It keeps the softness a cinematographer wants, while directing that light toward the subject rather than bleeding it across the room. You get soft light with reach, shape, and control — the qualities a bare softbox gives up.

Soft where it lands. Focused where it counts.

02 BUILT FOR HIGH OUTPUT

Made for the lights most softboxes can't handle.

Very few softboxes are engineered to take a 5,000W-class fixture. SMDV Cine is one of them.

Where lower-grade modifiers scorch, sag, or scatter under serious heat and output, Cine is built to hold up — so you can put your biggest head inside it and shape that power instead of fighting it.

If you own a high-output light, this is the modifier that finally lets it breathe.

03 ONE MODIFIER, ANY SYSTEM

Change your light. Keep your softbox.

Here's the hidden cost of upgrading lights: every time you switch brands, you're told to re-buy your modifiers too.

SMDV Cine ends that. The softbox stays. You just change the adapter.

Cine mounts to the systems working sets actually run on:

APUTURE NANLUX GODOX PROFOTO BOWENS

No makeshift converters, no stacking third-party rings that add slop and light leaks. A purpose-built adapter for each system — designed, not improvised.

One modifier. Any system. Buy the softbox once. Add an adapter for whatever you light with next.

04 DESIGNED ON SET, NOT IN A SPEC SHEET

Co-developed with a working cinematographer.

Cine didn't start in a lab. It started with a problem a lighting director kept hitting on real jobs.

When the big fixtures shipped, they came bundled with reflectors — and those reflectors carry a segmented, faceted inner surface. On the subject, that texture prints as a messy, broken shadow. He wanted a clean, soft source instead. The softbox he needed didn't exist.

So we built it together, from the first sketch — every decision measured against what actually happens on a set, not what looks good on paper.

BUILT FOR THE FLOOR

Rugged by choice. Fast by design.

Cine is built tough on purpose. It carries a little more weight than a throwaway softbox — because a modifier that survives a hundred shoots is cheaper than one you replace every season.

Deep Type

A focused, controlled beam. Front and inner diffusers deploy with a one-touch, pop-open action, unfolding in a single motion like a tent. A setup idea that turned heads at Cinegear.

Wide Type

A broader, more enveloping light for larger subjects with a softer falloff. The Wide Type uses standard, Velcro-attached diffusion rather than the quick-set diffusion system featured in the Deep Type boxes..

Set Up Fast. Strike Fast. Capture More!

THE DETAILS RENTAL HOUSES NOTICE

Engineered down to the last ring.

Rounder light.

50 & 70 use a 16-sided frame; 90 and up use 24 sides — closer to a true circle, for a more natural catchlight and falloff.

Deep grids, made for cinema.

Standard grids are shallow. Cine grids are cut to the 8cm depth the film industry actually asks for, for tighter spill control.

Safety built in.

Four D-ring anchor points per unit — rigging security that a rental house can trust overhead.

Cases that work on set.

Square-form carry bags stand upright on the floor and are rigid enough to protect the modifier inside from knocks and impact.
